GFT goes through to the next round

Host team Golden Futsal Team showed class against the French champions Roubaix AFS, by winning the group's final match 7-1.
By winning GFT qualified to the next round that will be played in Belgium next month. GFT will be joined in the group by host team Action 21, Skovde AIK from Sweden and Greek champions Athina '90.
In Sunday's first match English Champions Helvecia Futsal took a clear victory against Scottish Fair City Santos. The final result 11 - 2.

GFT and Roubaix AFS win on second day

The Uefa Futsal Cup Preliminary round continued in Espoo today with two fixtures. Host GFT met English side Helvecia. After managing a lot of pressure from Helvecia early in the first half GFT scored three times in the last minutes of the half.
Helvecia started the second half well. The visitor scored after only 13 seconds on the clock. GFT quickly scored again to make it 4-1. Helvecia pulled one back again, but GFT made it 5-2. The game went to 5-3 and then 6-3. Helvecia scored once more, but GFT came off winners.
Man of the match was Panu Autio with four goals. The score was 6-4(3-0) for the host team.
In the nights second match Roubaix AFS met Fair City Santos. Roubaix controlled the game from the first minute even though the Scottish side had a few good chances to score in the game. 4-0 (2-0) the result.
Who advances from the group will be decided tomorrow. Tomorrow?s first match will be Helvecia vs. Santos at 2:45 pm. The tournaments final match will be played between host GFT and French side Roubaix AFS at 5pm.

GFT and Helvecia victorious on the first day

Uefa Futsal Cup Preliminary round group D kicked off today. The games opening fixture was host GFT against Fair City Santos of Scotland.
GFT controlled the game and went 5-0 up during the second half. Santos managed to pull two back before GFT scored the last goal to seal the game 6-2 (2-0).
In the evenings second match Roubaix AFS from France met Helvecia Futsal of England. The game was a high pace match with both team scoring twice after only a few minutes of play. Both teams kept scoring one after another, but in the end Helvecia managed to take three points. 6-4 (3-3) the final score.

Modig is back

Uefa Futsal Cup preliminary round group D kicks off today! The first match is host GFT against Fair City Santos of Scotland.
For one man the opening whistle will sound very sweet. Jani Modig will play his first game for GFT since the last match of season 2007-2008.
"I couldn't think of a better place to come back", Modig said this morning. Modig missed all of last season because of a knee injury.
"No, I'm not nervous at all. I'm just looking forward to a great match tonight".
Modig is now fully recovered from his knee operation that kept him on the side lines.
"I'm sure it will go well as long as I still remember which end to score in", he said laughing.

Modig hasn't played since the last match of season 2007-2008.
Games begin tomorrow

The arena in Tapiola was finalized on Wednesday and it is now ready to host the Uefa Futsal Cup preliminary round in Espoo this week.
"It looks like all is ready for us to welcome the visiting teams", said Fernando Fransisco of GFT.
GFT coach Teemu Eskola , who has been in charge of the Espoo based club since June, is also very excited.
"It's a great thing for Finnish futsal to have this event in Espoo", he says. "We want to qualify, that's our first goal and we've been working hard to achieve it", he added.
GFT will play in the opening fixture against Fair City Sanatos from Scotland. Kick off at 5:30 pm.
Lindgren eager to show skills

Ville Lindgren who moved from Tervarit (Oulu) to GFT during the summer says he eagerly waits for his debut for GFT. He will play his first official match on Thursday against Scottish side Santos.
"I'm really looking forward to it. GFT wanted me here and now I want to show my skills", Lindgren says.
Lindgren has had no trouble getting used to the ways of GFT.
"The guys have welcomed me very well", he says. "But I'm sure I will still get my share of the usual pranks".
Coach Teemu Eskola thinks Lindgren is one of the most promising youngsters in Finland:
"I expect him to become a national team regular next season and also to earn his place in GFT".
"He's also a nice addition to the squad. Not only because he's a good player and a nice guy, but its good get some new blood from outside Southern Finland", Eskola says.

Golden Futsal Team trained at Leppävaara on Monday night. Wednesday will be the first time GFT will be able to try the renewed arena in Tapiola.
"It looks like things are starting to click", said GFT keeper Matias Sarelius after Monday night training session.
Sarelius is keen on moving to Tapiola.
"Some of the guys grew up just arownd the corner so it will be nostalgic in a way."
He also hopes a lot of people will find their way to the opening match on Thursday.
"European matches are still rare in Finland so I hope a lot of people will see come to see us!"
Spangar scores hat trick against PoPa

Golden Futsal Team - PoPa 5-1 (2-0)
GFT's final preparation match before the Uefa Futsal Cup Kick Off this week was played against League rivals PoPa.
An entertaining match ended in a 5-1 victory for Golden. Ville Spangar scored a hat trick while Panu Autio and Risto Salmi both netted once.
"I saved some goals from last season. I hope that wasn't it for this season", Spangar laughed after the game.
"PoPa wasn't too strong tonight, but we played well. It's looking good for Uefa", Spangar continued.
The game was controlled mostly by GFT, but PoPa managed to score once in the second half.
"This was a good friendly before the Uefa kick off. I have a positive problem and am faced with some hard choices this week, because all the guys preformed well", coach Teemu Eskola said.

Golden Futsal Team - Mytischi 2-3 (1-3)
Golden Futsal Team was forced to a 2-3 defeat by Russian Super League team Mytischi last night in Leppävaara.
The match itself was a high-tempo match. Mytischi held control of the ball for much of the first half, but GFT scored first.
After pulling level mid way through the half, Mytischi managed to score twice in the last minute. GFT came back during the second half but were able only to score once. Pekka Sihvola scored both goals for the home team.

Golden Futsal Team will face Roubaix Futsal (FRA), Helvecia Futsal (ENG) and Fair City Santos (SCO) in the UEFA Futsal Cup Preliminary Round. The tournament will be played 20th - 23rd of August 2009 in Tapiola, Espoo.
